At Bank of Ireland, we take our environmental responsibilities seriously and have implemented a number of initiatives in support of the environment which are listed below.
- Bank of Ireland is a member of the FTSE4Good index, which recognises companies who manage their social, ethical and environmental impacts.
- Bank of Ireland is the only Financial Services company in Ireland to have been accredited with the ISO14001 environmental standard for its customer operations centre in Cabinteely
- Bank of Ireland is a leader in the provision of Project Finance to the Renewable Energy and Waste Management sectors. We recently announced a new fund worth €100m specifically earmarked for lending to sustainable projects in Ireland, with further initiatives planned.
- Bank of Ireland recently launched a Green Loan, a discounted variable rate loan, aimed at homeowners looking to 'go green'.
- The Irish Banking Federation has developed a new set of Climate Change Principles, in conjunction with its members (Bank of Ireland actively participated in the working group). The principles are currently being adopted by member institutions and will shortly be launched in Ireland.
- Bank of Ireland is the first and only bank in Ireland to operate a Carbon Emissions Trading desk, facilitating clients who wish to purchase carbon credits, to meet their obligations under the Kyoto Agreement.
